YOU'RE PREGNANT.
No matter what, these words pack an emotional wallop. For a married couple hoping for the blessings of children, the news that a baby is on the way is one of the most joyous, wondrous events that life has to offer.
However, if you are unmarried, a pregnancy may well be some of the worst news you've ever received. You may be feeling shock, dismay, guilt or embarrassment. You probably feel alone, scared and overwhelmed about the decisions you need to make. And you have questions.
How do I tell my family I’m pregnant?
Where can I live? How can I finish school?
I don’t have medical insurance. How will I keep working?
My boyfriend/husband doesn’t want the baby, but I do.
I don’t have enough money for a baby.
I’m too young to be a mom.
But, what if an unintended pregnancy is not something that derails you, but something that lets you be more truly you? What if you could be a better professional because of your choice? A stronger, more compassionate community member? What if this pregnancy is not an end, but the beginning of a life more fulfilling than you’d imagined?
If you are considering parenting, help is available. Foothills Pregnancy Care Center offers a parenting education program called Parenting for Life as well as material assistance with maternity and baby items at our Baby Boutique. Talk with women who know what it’s like to manage work or school and motherhood—and have found a lot of joy along the way.
Parenting is hard. So is learning to play an instrument, or getting a master’s degree. But these things that deeply challenge us can become sources of our greatest strength.
We can talk about all of these issues at FPCC, so you can decide if becoming a parent is the right choice for you. With the support of caring people, parenting classes, and other resources, many women find the help they need to make this choice.
If you feel that parenting is the right choice for you, but you need help being prepared, Foothills Pregnancy Care Center's Parenting for Life Program may be just what you need.
