Job Title: Ultrasound Nurse / Training Provided
Department: Medical
Reports to: Executive Director, Program Services Manager
Hours per week: Full-Time, 32–40 hours per week
Supervises: Ultrasound Volunteers
Salary: Hourly (as discussed)
Objectives of the Position
The Ultrasound Nurse is responsible for overseeing client care within medical service operations and delivering direct patient care under the supervision and license of the Medical Director.
The ideal candidate will be a strong servant-leader, a self-starter, and highly organized, with excellent communication skills. Candidate must be a committed Christian who demonstrates a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord; must exhibit a strong commitment to the pro-life position, the sanctity of all human life, and sexual purity. Must agree with and uphold the Statement of Faith, Statement of Principles, Commitment to Care and Competence, and the policies of Foothills Care Center.
Job Requirements and Qualifications
Must possess a current RN license in good standing with the South Carolina Board of Nursing
Have two years’ experience as a nurse in a clinical setting
Have two years’ experience in a pregnancy center (preferred)
Previous certification in obstetrical ultrasound preferred; must be committed to obtaining training in sonography and completing qualifying scans within a reasonable time after hire
Must be committed to a local body of believers—whether a traditional church or home church—that upholds biblical doctrine
Essential Functions
Foothills Care Center staff are expected to work cooperatively with others, demonstrate flexibility in organizing work, show initiative, discernment, and resourcefulness, demonstrate thoughtfulness in decision-making, and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
All duties are performed in accordance with existing medical policies and procedures under the authority and direction of the Medical Director.
1. Client Care
Provide clinical services in accordance with level of expertise and training
Train and oversee medical staff and volunteers to ensure that all required forms are completed and placed in client files
Explain all medical consent forms to clients and answer questions prior to providing medical services, including pregnancy tests and ultrasounds
Provide support, training, and supervision to medical staff regarding the linear services model of counseling used at Foothills Care Center
Document client care in charts and properly maintain and archive medical records
Provide clients with health education (pregnancy decision options, STDs/STIs, etc.), referrals for medical care/follow-up, and other community resources
Conduct phone follow-up with clients, as indicated
Discuss clinical questions with the Medical Director as needed
Provide support to other medical staff, including chaperoning
2. Medical Services Operations
Assure accurate implementation of Medical Director’s orders
Audit client records quarterly
Maintain staff medical records
Provide in-service education for the staff, as needed
Implement clinic policies and procedures (P&P), including compliance with OSHA, CLIA, privacy practices, and infection control
Conduct annual review of P&P and infection control regulations with the Medical Director
Orient new medical staff and volunteers to clinic duties and responsibilities; provide ongoing supervision to nurses and RDMSs
Conduct annual evaluations of nurses and medical personnel
Coordinate medical staff and volunteer schedules
Ensure medical equipment is properly operated and maintained
Conduct regular medical supply inventory and ensure clinics are properly stocked
Ensure proper disinfection of medical equipment and exam rooms
In conjunction with the Medical Director, ensure OSHA orientation of all new personnel, provide annual refreshers, and monitor facility compliance
3. Emergencies
Train staff to handle emergency phone calls
Follow guidelines for responding to emergencies and unusual ultrasound findings as specified in the P&P manual
Train staff to handle on-site emergency situations
4. Continuing Education
Maintain active nursing license
Comply with South Carolina state professional continuing education requirements
Annually renew and ensure all medical staff renew CPR certification
Annually review Medical P&P and infection control regulations
5. Public Relations
Build relationships with medical resources in the community
Identify physicians and/or agencies who may be willing to provide no-cost or low-cost services for clients
Identify pro-life physicians who would like to be added to the referral list
Represent Foothills Care Center in the community to increase clientele, nurse volunteer help, physician involvement, and financial support
Participate in community activities and fundraising events as requested
6. Care of the Ministry
Protect the ministry through prayerful care of staff and volunteers
The Nurse Manager shall receive a yearly written and oral evaluation by the Executive Director
